ASTORIA, Ore. — The Coast Guard Auxiliary 2010 Buoy Ten program, ending Sunday, has reached more than 10,000 boaters and seen zero boating-related fatalities or injuries along the Columbia River for the season.
Buoy Ten is an annual effort by Auxiliary members to patrol the docks educating boaters about safety.
Throughout the course of the program, members of the Coast Guard Auxiliary arrived at piers along the Columbia River at 6 a.m. to provide safety tips, dockside checks and packets of useful information to boaters heading out to fish the river's waters.
"The members of the Coast Guard Auxiliary are a tremendous resource for us in educating the public and keeping boaters safe," said Ensign Jacob Marks from the Sector Columbia River Surface Operations Department.
For questions about Buoy Ten or to schedule an interview, please contact Ensign Jacob Marks at 503-861-6476 or 707-616-5855.
