THREE PEOPLE FROM OREGON RESCUED FROM CLIFF

SEATTLE – Three Oregonians stranded on a cliff near Manazanita, Ore., were rescued by the Coast Guard this afternoon.

A Tillamook County 911 dispatcher contacted Coast Guard Group/Air Station Astoria, Ore., at 2 p.m. to report three people stranded on a cliff at Short Sands Beach.

An HH-60 Jayhawk helicopter from Air Station Astoria was launched to assist the three stranded people.

They were found on a cliff at Short Sands Beach and then hoisted into the helicopter with the assistance of a rescue swimmer.

The group was flown to Nehlam Bay State Park in Manazanita where awaiting emergency medical technicians evaluated and released them.

The Coast Guard would like to remind individuals that climbing on and around rocks and cliffs on the Oregon Coast is extremely dangerous.

Attempting to climb cliffs places the people and their rescuers in a dangerous situation.

Beachgoers should check local tide and weather conditions prior to heading to the beach.

Changing tides can quickly trap you on rocks or force you to climb into precarious places.
