FATHER AND SON TO RECEIVE AWARD FOR HEROISM SEATTLE - The Coast Guard plans to recognize a father and son with the Meritorious Public Service Award Tuesday for their heroic rescue of two people from the Straits of Juan de Fuca near Port Angeles, Wash., in April. Rear Admiral Richard Houck, Thirteenth Coast Guard District Commander, will present Jeff and Mark Reynolds Award in a ceremony to be held at Sector Port Angeles, at 9 a.m. The award is the second highest award given to a civilian by the Coast Guard. Jeff and his son, both Port Angeles natives, risked their lives to pull two men from 48-degree water after their 19-foot vessel capsized 10 miles west of Port Angeles April 16. Despite heavy rain and 23-mph winds, the Reynolds then transported the men to a dock in Freshwater Bay where emergency medical technicians treated and released them.
