FISHING BOAT CAPSIZES, SINKS OFF QUILLAYUTE RIVER, WASH.

SEATTLE – Four fishermen and their dog are safe after the 72-foot fishing vessel they were on capsized and sank 4 miles west of Quillayute River, Wash., this evening.

Coast Guard Station Quillayute River received a distress call at 5:45 p.m., from a 25-foot recreational fishing boat reporting that the seiner Milkyway had capsized near James Island, Wash.

A 25-foot response boat was immediately launched from the station and a 47-foot motor lifeboat was diverted to assist.  Before the Coast Guard arrived the crew of the vessel were able to get into their 15-foot skiff, but were unable to don survival suits or make a distress call before the vessel capsized.

The Milkyway crewmembers were safely taken aboard the motor lifeboat and verified they were the only people aboard the vessel when it capsized.  All four men and their dog were taken to Station Quillayute River for further transport to the vessels homeport of Grays Harbor, Wash.  None of the men were injured or required medical treatment.

The cause of the capsizing is unknown.  The vessel had about 2,500 gallons of diesel fuel onboard when it sank.  There are no photos or video available.
