FISHING BOAT CAPSIZES, SINKS OFF QUILLAYUTE RIVER, WASH. SEATTLE – Four fishermen and their dog are safe after the 72-foot fishing vessel they were on capsized and sank 4 miles west of Quillayute River, Wash., this evening. A 25-foot response boat was immediately launched from the station and a 47-foot motor lifeboat was diverted to assist. Before the Coast Guard arrived the crew of the vessel were able to get into their 15-foot skiff, but were unable to don survival suits or make a distress call before the vessel capsized. The Milkyway crewmembers were safely taken aboard the motor lifeboat and verified they were the only people aboard the vessel when it capsized. All four men and their dog were taken to Station Quillayute The cause of the capsizing is unknown. The vessel had about 2,500 gallons of diesel fuel onboard when it sank.
