LOCAL WORLD WAR II COMMEMORATION EXPECTED TO BE LARGEST IN COUNTRY SEATTLE- America's Celebrate Freedom Salute, World War II 60th Commemoration is expected to be the largest of six regional observances by the Department of Defense honoring veterans who served during World War II. The three-day event begins Friday in Every veteran attending the Sunday ceremony will be presented with a World War II Veteran badge and the honorable service lapel pin. In addition to other service veterans, three veterans representing the Coast Guard will be presented their pins on stage during the ceremony. Coast Guard veterans were selected from dozens of applications from across the nation. One veteran was selected from Nahant, Mass., and two others were selected from Eugene, Ore. All three were selected based on their unique experiences and willingness to share their Coast Guard stories. The Coast Guard will also be leading the collection of veterans histories for the Library of Congress Veterans History Project. Veterans are asked to share their wartime stories on video for the benefit of future generations. The Northwest's event is expected to be the largest in the nation.
