COAST GUARD RESCUES TWO STRANDED ON ISLAND NEAR LA PUSH, WASH.

SEATTLE – The Coast Guard rescued two 15-year-old boys stranded by an incoming tide on James Island near La Push, Wash., about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The boys were found by a Coast Guard Station Quillayute River boat crew, who transported them to shore and released the boys to their families.

A La Push woman called the Coast Guard at 4 p.m. to report that four boys were overdue from a walk to James Island during low tide earlier in the day.

The Coast Guard Station diverted a 25-foot response boat from patrol to search the island and a second 16-foot skiff was added to search the Quillayute River.

The crew of the 25-foot boat located one boy on the west side of James Island.  They attempted to signal the boy and he ran to the interior of the island.

The 16-foot boat crew pushed up on the beach and sent a crewman after the boy.

They found both boys unharmed and returned to the beach.  The first boy wasn’t trying to evade rescuers but wanted to alert his friend that rescuers had arrived.

The boys confirmed that there were only two of them on the island rather than the four reported by the La Push woman.
