COAST GUARD ASSISTS WOMAN WITH CHEST PAINS SEATTLE – A 58-year old woman suffering from chest pains aboard a charter fishing boat 13 miles north of Grays Harbor, Wash., was treated by the Coast Guard and transported to the hospital Tuesday. The
master of the vessel Fury radioed the Coast Guard at 1:45 p.m., on VHF
FM channel 16 that a passenger who had been seasick throughout the day
was now complaining of numbness and chest pains. A flight surgeon from Coast Guard Air Station Astoria, Ore., contacted the master of the Fury to gather details on the passenger’s condition. Based on the woman’s condition, the decision was made to launch an HH-60 Jayhawk helicopter from Air Station Astoria, a 23-utility boat and a 47-foot motor lifeboat from Coast Guard Station Grays Harbor, Wash. At 2:15 p.m., the utility boat reached the Fury and transferred a Coast Guard reservist aboard the Fury. The reservist is also a certified emergency medical technician who was able to administer oxygen and monitor the woman.
