VIDEO AND AUDIO ARE AVAILABLE OF THIS CASE

SEATTLE - The Coast Guard rescued ten people from an Ilwaco, Wash., based charter vessel that went aground in the surf on Clatsop Spit, Ore., near the mouth of the Columbia River today.

Ten people were hoisted by a Coast Guard helicopter crew just after 7 a.m., from the 42-foot charter vessel Katie after it ran aground about 6:15 a.m.

The master of the charter vessel Katie suffered minor injuries.  The remaining crew and passengers were uninjured.

The Coast Guard received a Mayday call on VHF channel 16 from the master of the Katie reporting the boat had gone aground in the surf zone near Clatsop Spit.

A Coast Guard 47-foot motor lifeboat on bar patrol was diverted to the rescue.  An H-60 Jayhawk helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Astoria, in Warrenton, Ore., and a 25-foot response boat from Coast Guard Station Cape Disappointment, Wash., were also launched.

The Jayhawk helicopter crew conducted basket hoists of all ten people on board the vessel and flew them to Air Station Astoria.

Coast Guard Sector Portland, Ore., is investigating the accident.
