The U.S. Coast Guard, Multnomah and Clark County Sheriff’s Marine Patrols and the City of Portland will be enforcing a safety zone regulation on the Columbia River surrounding the 4th of July Fort Vancouver Fireworks Display from 9:50 PM to 10:50 PM. The river will be closed to vessels wishing to transit or anchor between the I-5 Bridge and the middle of Tomahawk Island (east of Hayden Bay and the Columbia River Yacht Club) during this time.
Due to state fire code requirements, the fireworks barge will be located in the center of the river. The fireworks fallout area stretches the entire width of the Columbia River. Unlike years in the past, it will be unsafe for boaters to anchor on or transit along the shoreline of Hayden Island. Boaters should expect a 1000 ft. plus safety area around the barge.
Boaters are encouraged to find other areas to anchor to watch the fireworks display. Law enforcement will start clearing the area of anchored boats several hours before the river closure to ensure a clear fallout area for the start of the fireworks display. Commercial and pleasure craft will be allowed to transit through the area until approximately 9:50 PM and again after the show.
