News Release: Coast Guard assisting sinking vessel near Neah Bay, Wash.

SEATTLE - The Coast Guard is responding to a report of a fishing vessel taking on water near Neah Bay, Wash., Sunday.

At 11:35 p.m. the Coast Guard received a report that the 40-foot fishing vessel Sundown was taking on water and was in need of assistance.

The crew aboard the fishing vessel Vicious Fisher assisted the crew of the Sundown before the Coast Guard arrived.

An HH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Air Station Port Angeles, Wash., and two 47-foot motor lifeboat (MLB) crews from Coast Guard Station Neah Bay were sent to assist.

A Coast Guardsmen and the Sundown’s captain are the only people now aboard.  Five dewatering pumps were needed to bring the flooding under control. 

The crew of the Vicious Fisher is towing the Sundown back to Neah Bay with the two MLB crews following along for safety.
