Coast Guard emphasizes maritime border-crossing procedures

SEATTLE — The Coast Guard reminds boaters of the proper procedures for entering and exiting the United States maritime border.

During the upcoming Winter Olympics in Vancouver, B.C., boaters can expect to see an increase of Coast Guard and Coast Guard Auxiliary crews at marinas, in Puget Sound and along the maritime border.

“The Coast Guard will maintain a highly visible presence throughout the region to ensure the safety of boaters and the security of America’s maritime border” said Lieutenant Josh Sagers, Coast Guard maritime security expert.

Anyone crossing the border must have required citizenship documents in the form of a passport, a U.S. passport card, or an enhanced driver's license.

Boaters without an I-68 permit or a NEXUS permit will be required to check-in with one of five Customs and Border Protection Stations:
