Coast Guard rescues surfer off Indian Beach, Ore. |

ASTORIA, Ore. — The Coast Guard rescued a surfer in distress off Indian Beach in Ecola State Park near Cannon Beach, Ore., Thursday, Feb. 4, 2010. Coast Guard Air Station Astoria diverted an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew to the scene at approximately 4:00 p.m. The surfer was airlifted and transferred to Ecola State Park. Cannon Beach Fire and Rescue transported him to Providence Seaside Hospital in Seaside, Ore. U.S. Coast Guard video by Air Station Astoria. ASTORIA, Ore. — The Coast Guard rescued a surfer in distress off Indian Beach in Ecola State Park near Cannon Beach, Ore., Thursday. Coast Guard Air Station Astoria, Ore. received a call at 3:56 p.m. from the Cannon Beach Police Department reporting a male surfer who appeared to be in distress at the north end of Indian Beach in Ecola State Park. Coast Guard Air Station Astoria diverted an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew to the scene at approximately 4:00 p.m. The MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew arrived on scene at approximately 4:18 p.m. and lowered a rescue swimmer. The rescue swimmer recovered the man, who was then hoisted to the helicopter. The surfer was airlifted and transferred to Ecola State Park. Cannon Beach Fire and Rescue transported him to Providence Seaside Hospital in Seaside, Ore. |
