Coast Guard searches for man overboard

ASTORIA, Ore. — The Coast Guard is searching for a 32-year-old fisherman who fell from a crab fishing vessel approximately 10 miles from the Columbia River entrance Thursday.

Coast Guard Group/Air Astoria, Ore., received a radio call at approximately 1 p.m. from the fishing vessel Ballad reporting a man had fallen overboard. The reporting source stated that the fisherman was wearing blue and yellow rain gear with an orange rain jacket when he was last seen.

An HH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Group North Bend, Ore., was in the area and was diverted to conduct a search.  A Coast Guard MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Air Station Astoria, a motor lifeboat crew from Coast Guard Station Cape Disappointment, Wash., and two Good Samaritan boat crews are also assisting with the search.
