ASTORIA, Ore. — An investigating officer and a commercial fishing vessel inspector from Coast Guard Sector Portland, Ore., will examine rescue equipment and interview the vessel master from the sunken vessel Manatee at Coos Bay, Ore., Wednesday. Coast Guard Group North Bend, Ore., received a call from a crewman aboard the 38-foot fishing vessel Manatee at approximately 3 p.m. Tuesday reporting that the vessel was taking on water with three crewmembers aboard. Coast Guard Station Coos Bay launched a 47-foot motor lifeboat crew to assist. The crew arrived on scene and transferred all three crewmembers from the Manatee to the motor lifeboat. The vessel eventually sank at the Coos Bay river bar entrance. The three crewmembers were transferred to Station Coos Bay where they were met by awaiting emergency medical services. No reports of injuries or pollution were made and the vessel is not a hazard to navigation. |
