Coast Guard rescues three from sinking boat

ASTORIA, Ore. — The Coast Guard rescued three people from their sinking fishing vessel near the entrance of Coos Bay, Ore., Tuesday.

Coast Guard Group North Bend, Ore., received a call from a crewman aboard the 38-foot fishing vessel Manatee at approximately 3 p.m. reporting that the vessel was taking on water.

Coast Guard Station Coos Bay launched a 47-foot motor lifeboat crew to assist.  The crew arrived on scene and transferred all three crewmembers from the Manatee to the motor lifeboat.

The vessel eventually sank at the Coos Bay river bar entrance.  The three crewmembers were transferred to Station Coos Bay where they were met by awaiting emergency medical services.  No reports of injuries or pollution were made and the vessel is not a hazard to navigation.  The ship's master is responsible for salvage of the vessel.
