Coast Guard closes river bars along Oregon, Washington coasts |
|
|
PORTLAND, Ore. — The Coast Guard Captain of the Port, Portland, Ore., has closed multiple river bars throughout Oregon and Washington Friday due to extreme winds and heavy seas throughout the region. The following bars will be closed until further notice by the Captain of the Port, Sector Portland: Grays Harbor, Wash., Depoe Bay, Ore., Yaquina Bay, Ore., Siuslaw River, Ore., Umpqua River, Ore., Coos Bay, Ore., and Coquille River, Ore. Thursday’s river bar closures of the Columbia River and Tillamook Bay, Ore., are still in effect. The bar closures are for all vessels and any request to transit the bars prior to re-opening must be approved by the Captain of the Port, Portland. Mariners may contact the Coast Guard on VHF-FM Channel 16 for further information or to request crossing. The Coast Guard will be re-evaluating the bar closures on an ongoing basis and expect to re-open these waterways as soon as the offshore weather improves, which is forecasted to be no later than Sunday evening. The Coast Guard understands the effects these closures have on commerce and will make every effort to re-open these waterways as soon as they are considered safe for navigation. |
