Local agencies to conduct mass rescue exercise

PORTLAND, Ore. — The Coast Guard and other on-water response agencies are scheduled to conduct Mass Rescue 2009 Exercise, a full-scale multi-agency exercise in the Portland, Ore., and Vancouver, Wash., area Wednesday.

This exercise is designed to demonstrate the capabilities and effectiveness of Portland and Vancouver area marine response agencies responding to a major waterside incident on the Columbia River.

The exercise will focus on the initial response actions and interagency cooperation during a significant on-water event.  It provides the response community an opportunity to improve preparedness and practice command and control in the field within an incident command/unified command framework..

Agencies participating in this event include: Coast Guard Sector Portland, Multnomah County, Ore., Sheriff’s Office River Patrol, Port of Portland, Portland Fire and Rescue, Vancouver Fire and Rescue, Clark County, Wash., Fire and Rescue, Gresham, Ore., Fire and other local agencies and stakeholders.
