Coast Guard, local authorities, end search for missing person from Washington State Ferry

SEATTLE — The Coast Guard ended the search for a possible adult male in the water from the Washington State Ferry (WSF) Wenatchee, Thursday.

Coast Guard was called by WSF authorities at approximately 9:45 a.m. Thursday, reporting a possible passenger overboard on the 8:45 a.m.ferry from Bainbridge, Wash., to Seattle.

Multiple rescue boat crews from Coast Guard Station Seattle were dispatched to assist local authorities in the search. Group/Air Station Port Angeles, Wash., launched a rescue helicopter crew to assist in the search as well.

The Captain of the WSF Wenatchee contacted the Coast Guard at approximately 10:35 a.m. to report that after careful review of the video surveillance tapes the missing man was seen walking off of the ferry at the Seattle Terminal.

The search was initiated after the man initially boarded the ferry in Bainbridge in a taxi and did not depart with the taxi when the ferry arrived in Seattle.

"The Coast Guard takes all initial reports of possible persons in the water seriously which is why we immediately launch assets." said Lt. Jennifer Osburn, spokeswoman from Coast Guard Sector Seattle.
