Coast Guard assists in search for missing hiker

SEATTLE — The Coast Guard assisted in the search for a missing hiker on Saddle Mountain east of Seaside, Ore., Saturday.

At 6:52 p.m.  Coast Guard Air Station Astoria, Ore., received a call from the Clatsop County Sheriff's office asking for assistance in the search for the 18-year-old male.

An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Air Station Astoria was launched and searched the area for approximately an hour before being recalled due to weather.

At 8:30 a.m., Sunday, another Jayhawk helicopter crew was launched from Air Station Astoria to resume the search.

After approximately two and a half hours of searching the crew found a body matching the hiker's discription at the bottom of a ravine.

The Clatsop County Sheriff's office has been notified of the location and has the lead in the investigation.  Due to the difficult terrain the Clatsop County Sheriff's office is making arrangements to recover the body.
