Coast Guard responds to sunken vessel on the Columbia River

SEATTLE — The Coast Guard responded to a sunken fishing vessel on the west side of McNary Dam near Hermiston, Ore., Monday.

At 2:55 p.m. Coast Guard Sector Portland received a call from the Morrow County Sheriff's department asking for assistance in a search for two men missing after their fishing vessel sank.

Coast Guard Air Station Astoria, Ore., launched an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew to assist with the search.

Five Tribal fishermen were fishing on the Columbia River at near mile marker 260 when their vessel sank.  Three of the men were able to swim to shore.

The Coast Guard has suspended its search operations.

The Morrow County Sheriff's dive team will pick up the search tomorrow morning.
