Coast Guard Cutter Active crew returns from two month deployment

PORT ANGELES, Wash. — The Coast Guard Cutter Active returned to Port Angeles Tuesday after a two month deployment.

The crew of the Active participated in a counter-drug patrol off the West Coast of the United States and Mexico.

During the deployment, the Active crew patrolled over 8,000 nautical miles and conducted law enforcement boardings, cutter training and participated in Los Angeles Navy Days.

The Active’s deployment culminated in the rescue of two fishermen after their 60-foot fishing vessel caught fire offshore of Long Beach, Wash., Monday.  The press release can be viewed at this link.

The Active is assigned primarily to law enforcement and search and rescue duties.  The law enforcement duties involve counter-narcotic operations, fisheries, and environmental protection.  To add to its diverse mission capability, the Active also participates in public events such as the Portland Rose Festival and Seattle Sea Fair.
