Coast Guard, local authorities assist capsized fishing vessel

SEATTLE – The Coast Guard, working with San Juan County, Wash., Sheriff's Office and good Samaritan boaters, responded to the capsized fishing vessel Ana J near Salmon Bank, San Juan Islands, Wash., at approximately 6:34 p.m.

Local good Samaritans rescued the six person crew from the water after the Ana J capsized for reasons not yet known.

A Coast Guard response boat crew from Station Bellingham, Wash., and a San Juan County Sheriff's Office rescue boat crew ferried the Ana J’s crew from multiple good Samaritan boats to shore.

Four crewmembers were treated and released at a local medical facility.

Airlift Northwest transported one crewmember to Harborview Medical Center, Seattle, and one crewmember to Saint Joseph's Hospital in Bellingham for further medical attention.

The extent of injuries and condition of the two airlifted crewmembers is not known at this time.
