Coast Guard corrects misinformation in Ryan Alexander Jenkins case

SEATTLE — A report of the Coast Guard taking part in a water chase of murder suspect and fugitive Ryan Alexander Jenkins is inaccurate.

The Coast Guard was contacted Wednesday evening by Customs and Border Protection and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. The agencies asked for assistance in searching for Jenkin's boat which was used to escape the country.

Coast Guard Station Bellingham, Wash., launched a small response boat and assisted in searching several areas for Jenkin's boat.

Jenkin's boat was eventually located in the Point Roberts, Wash., area by the Whatcom County Sheriff's Office.

The Coast Guard towed Jenkin's boat to Birch Bay Marina in Birch Bay Village, Wash., Thursday where it was turned over to the Washington State Patrol for further investigation.

Jenkins remains a fugitive. The Coast Guard continues to support requests for assistance from local law enforcement agencies.
