Coast Guard locates missing rafters on Wilson River

ASTORIA, Ore. - The Coast Guard located four missing rafters on the Wilson River near Tilamook, Ore., Tuesday.

Group/Air Station Astoria received a request for assistance from the Tillamook County Sheriff's Office in the search for two men and two children who were overdue from a rafting trip at approximately 11:58 p.m. Monday. A helicopter crew was dispatched to search for the rafters and managed to locate them stranded on a sand bar near Mile 4 of Highway 6. The helicopter crew directed Tillamook County Sheriff's Office personnel to the scene where the four were helped off the sand bar. None of the rafters were injured.

The missions of Group/Air Station Astoria include search and rescue, ports, waterways and coastal security, law enforcement, aids to navigation support, environmental protection, and support for units in the area.
