ASTORIA, Ore. — The Coast Guard is searching for a Good Samaritan who disappeared in the Cowlitz River near Kelso, Wash., after saving a three-year-old girl Friday.

Cowlitz County Dispatch contacted Coast Guard Sector Portland, Ore., at approximately 3 p.m. after they received a report of a person in the water.

The Good Samaritan went into the water after seeing the child in distress.  He was last seen after he handed the girl off to a group of people once he got near the shore.  It was reported that the Good Samaritan never made it to shore.  There were no reports of injuries to the child.
