SEATTLE — The Coast Guard responded to a grounded vessel on the Columbia River bar near Hammond, Ore., Thursday.

Coast Guard Air Station Astoria recieved a report from the two people aboard the unnamed 17-foot crab boat at approximately 10:22 a.m.  The vessel had run aground and was taking on water over the stern.  The crew of the nearby fishing vessel Sniper provided additional communications support with the Coast Guard while an HH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew was diverted to the scene.  A 25-foot smallboat crew from Coast Guard Station Cape Disappointment in Ilwaco, Wash., was also launched.  With help from a Coast Guard rescue swimmer and the smallboat crew, the vessel was successfully pulled from the beach and towed to the Hammond Marina in Hammond.
