And the recognition just keeps on coming for District Thirteen Coasties!
Petty Officer 2nd Class Daniel King, a Yeoman (YN) serving as ISC Seattle's Customer Service Branch, was chosen as the Reserve Enlisted Person of the Year for 2007. Coasties who achieve this high honor are chosen by exemplifying the finest traditions of military customs and courtesy's and the Coast Guard's core values of honor, respect and devotion to duty.
King was the leading Petty Officer during reserve drill periods, responsible for oversight of the DEERS/ID/decal desk service delivery which occurred typically once a month. He engaged active duty, reserve, auxiliary and dependents from all services in one of the ISC's most high-visibility mission support positions, serving a particularly broad spectrum of customers who used these services on weekends. King was revered as the go-to person during these drill periods and was exceptional at resolving unique situations involving ID cards, dependent concerns and a myriad of issues associated with member and dependent entitlements.
King adjusted the customer service branch staffing to provide lunchtime and extended hours on weekends; these efforts increased the availability of limited weekend appointment times for customer often only able to come in on weekends. As part of the CG-wide Common Access Card security card coding efforts, he volunteered and drilled two weekends during a key period of time to ensure Sector Seattle reserves were able to get timely coding of their cards, again providing relief for active duty customer service branch members who otherwise would have been required to cover these weekend services.
King volunteered to be trained and serve as a Unit Health Promotions Coordinator (UHPC). Following UHPC training, he proactively provided individual counseling to numerous reserve members who benefited from his interventions. King used UHPC materials to provide health and fitness information to reserve members, ensuring they had access to the same level of services available to active duty staff. In addition to his excellent technical and coaching skills, the unit received numerous thank you's and accolades for his superior customer service, praising King's "model professionalism and courtesy."
Hmmmm....I think we are starting to see a trend in these awardees! Congratulations King on a job well done! You deserve it!
