COAST GUARD AIRLIFTS INJURED FISHERMAN NEAR TILLAMOOK | |

SEATTLE - The Coast Guard airlifted a 24-year-old male from a fishing vessel five miles northwest of Tillamook, Ore., today. The master of the 77-foot vessel Lady Kate contacted Coast Guard Air Station Astoria, Ore., by VHF channel 16 at 1:02 a.m. to request assistance after the man was struck by a crab pot and injured. An HH-60 helicopter crew from Air Station Astoria was launched and later hoisted the man at 1:56 a.m. The crew transferred him to an awaiting ambulance in Astoria at 2:26 a.m. The man was then transferred to Columbia Memorial Hospital where he was treated for his injuries. The missions of Group/Air Station Astoria include search and rescue, law enforcement, aids to navigation support and environmental protection. The Group also provides support to the National Motor Lifeboat School and the Advanced Rescue Swimmer School located in Ilwaco, Wash., and the Coast Guard Cutters Alert and Steadfast homeported in Astoria. | |
