TWO PEOPLE RECOVERED AFTER MID-AIR COLLISION | |
| SEATTLE - Two people were recovered safely from Commencement Bay, Wash., after a mid-air collision near the Port of Tacoma, today.
Seattle/Tacoma Air Traffic Control Center reported to the Coast Guard at 12:40 p.m. that two small planes collided over Commencement Bay. One crashed in the water and one landed safely. Foss Tugs, the Pierce County Sheriff's Department, the Tacoma Fire Department and civilian vessels were on scene at the time of the crash and quickly pulled two people out of the water. A 25-foot rescue boat crew from Coast Guard Station Seattle and a Coast Guard Auxiliary Air helicopter crew also responded. No pollution has been reported. A police boat is using sonar to search for the wreckage in more than 200 feet of water. The cause of the accident is unknown.
