COAST GUARD AIRLIFTS CAR CRASH VICTIM

SEATTLE - The Coast Guard medically evacuated a 28-year-old female who had driven her car off of a cliff and crashed into a tree on Orcas Island, Wash., today.

Coast Guard Group Port Angeles received a request at 8 a.m. from the San Juan County Sheriff's Department and the Orcas Island Fire Department for a medical evacuation of a female who suffered injuries as a result of a car accident.

An HH-65C Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Port Angeles launched to the scene. The victim was airlifted on board the helicopter along with an emergency medical technician from the Orcas Island Fire Department and was transported to St. Joseph's Hospital in Bellingham, Wash.

The Coast Guard routinely cooperates with local agencies to provide enhanced capabilities during an emergency response.
