U.S., CANADIAN FORCES UNITE FOR NATIONAL SECURITY DRILL

SEATTLE - Petty Officers George Melvin and Matthew Pincumbe, and Seaman Lee Wisler operate the 25mm deck gun aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Alert during the 2007 Trident Fury exercise near Tofino, B.C., May 14. The cutter crew is firing at the former Canadian naval vessel Huron. The crew of the Alert used the oportunity to demonstrate boarding techniques and show off some of the Coast Guard's combat capability when they took part in the sinking of the Huron May 14. The Coast Guard Cutter Alert, along with several Canadian and U.S. Navy vessels came together near the coast of Tofino, B.C., May 7 to participate in a multi-agency drill that will progress until May 18. The Alert is a 210-foot cutter based near Astoria, Ore. The crew's missions include search and rescue, law enforcement and national defense. Trident Fury is a coalition-based drill bringing Canadian and U.S. forces together to train for potential threats to the national security of both countries. Eggert) SEATTLE - The Coast Guard Cutter Alert, along with several Canadian and U.S. Navy vessels came together near the coast of Tofino, B.C., May 7 to participate in a multi-agency drill that will progress until May 18. Trident Fury, an annual, collaborative training exercise designed by Canada's Pacific Joint Task Force Headquarters (JTHP,) is a chance for U.S. and Canadian forces to form smooth, working partnerships for the benefit of both countries. The JHTP is also using the exercise as a means of informing the public of the need for a strong relationship with the U.S. in regards to national security. The scenario for this exercise called on the Alert to act as a military vessel caught in the middle of an escalting feud between two rival imaginary nations. The crew of the Alert used the oportunity to demonstrate boarding techniques and show off some of the Coast Guard's combat capability when they took part in the sinking of the former Candian navy vessel Huron May 14.
