COAST GUARD AIRCRAFT RESUME SEARCH FOR MISSING CREWMEMBER | |

JUNEAU, Alaska - Coast Guard aircraft rejoined the Coast Guard Cutter Munro in the search for the missing crewmember of the fishing vessel Ocean Challenger, near the Aleutian Islands at 9:30 a.m. today. A C-130, deployed from Air Station Kodiak, and a HH-60 helicopter ,from Cold Bay, arrived on scene 60 miles south of Sand Point, at first light today After responding to the capsized Ocean Challenger Wednesday, three of the four crewmembers were recovered from the water by a Coast Guard Jayhawk helicopter crew. Two of the men were pronounced dead by a Coast Guard flight surgeon after recovery. Deceased is David Hafflequist, age 51, of Hoonah, Alaska, and crewmember Walter Foster, age 26, of Westport, Washington. Crewmember Kevin Ferrell, age 28, of Lynchburg Virginia, was taken to a Cold Bay medical facility, and then transferred to an Anchorage medical facility. The search continues for crewmember Steve Esparza, age 26, of Kodiak, Alaska. The on scene weather conditions are 11 foot seas with 23 knot winds. Visibility is six nautical miles, air temperature is 49 degrees Fahrenheit and water temperature is 40 degrees Fahrenheit. | |
