COAST GUARD CLOSES SAFETY ZONE NEAR NARROWS
SEATTLE - The Coast Guard temporarily closed the Tacoma Narrows to maritime traffic today in response to an equipment failure on one of the replacement high tension cables being installed over the Tacoma Narrows. The failure occurred at approximately 3 p.m. and resulted in the unplanned lowering of the cable into the waterway for removal posing a hazard to vessel traffic. The Coast Guard has reopened the waters around the Tacoma Narrows power line to mariners. As part of the project, Mariners must call the Coast Guard at 206-217-6152 prior to transiting the area due to the continuing power line replacement operations.
