COAST GUARD AUXILIARY OFFERING BOATING SKILLS & SEAMANSHIP COURSE

SEATTLE - The Coast Guard Auxiliary will conduct a Boating Skills and Seamanship course at the Tyee Yacht Club, located at 2929 NE Marine Drive in Portland, Ore. Sept. 13 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The Boating Skills & Seamanship Course is designed for people 14 years of age and older. The course will cover general boating, proper maintenance, safe and comfortable boat operation, and laws and regulations.

Completion of the Coast Guard Auxiliary's Boating Skills & Seamanship Course meets the boating educational requirements for Oregon and Washington, which allows graduates to apply for the Boater's Education Card.  Many insurance companies provide discounts to graduates of the boating education course.

The enrollment fee for the class is $50.00. An additional $25.00 fee will be applied for family members who share books and other materials.

All boaters age 50 and younger who operate a water craft with a 10hp or greater motor, must have their Boater's Education Card. Failure to hold this card while boating could result in a $94 Oregon State fine.

Registration for the course is required.

For more information, or to register for the course, contact Bob Mell at (503)-761-1507.
