Coast Guard terminates voyage of fishing vessel
|
SEATTLE - The Coast Guard terminated the voyage of a 28-foot fishing vessel today near Blaine, Wash., for failing to meet safety requirements. The vessel was found to have no visual distress signaling devices, personal flotation devices, registration documents or a life ring onboard. The vessel's master called the Coast Guard for assistance at 6:48 a.m., today stating that they were adrift due to engine problems. The violations were found during the post search and rescue boarding that was conducted by the Coast Guard. The vessel is restricted from operating until it meets all safety requirements. The Coast Guard strictly enforces boating safety laws and regulations and recommends that all commercial and recreational boaters comply with established requirements. A free Commercial Fishing Vessel Safety Exam can be obtained through any Fishing Vessel Safety Coordinator located throughout Washington and Oregon. In Washington call 206-217-6208 and in Oregon call 503-240-7337 to set up an exam.
