Coast Guard assists fishing boat taking on water

SEATTLE -The Coast Guard assisted a 50-foot fishing vessel taking on water approximately 10 miles west of Ozette Lake, Wash., today.

At 8:34 a.m., Coast Guard Station Neah Bay, Wash. received a cell phone call from the master of the Kristina reporting that the vessel was taking on water and had four people onboard.

A HH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Port Angeles, Wash., and a 47-foot Motor Life Boat crew from Coast Guard Station Quillayute River, Wash., were launched to assist.

After locating the sinking vessel, the helicopter crew lowered two dewatering pumps to control the flooding.

The Kristina is currently being towed to Neah Bay by the motor lifeboat crew.

Mariners are reminded that the Coast Guard Auxiliary offers Free vessel safety checks. For more information visit: http://nws.cgaux.org/contact/index.html
