VESSEL TAKING ON WATER ASSISTED NEAR ALSEA BAY, OREGON | |
| SEATTLE - Coast Guard Sector/Air Station North Bend, Ore., responded to a distress call today from a 45-foot fishing vessel that was taking on water, 4.5 miles west of Alsea Bay, Ore.
Sector North Bend received a call on VHF channel 16 at 1:30 a.m., from the master of the fishing vessel Paradise stating that they were taking on water and in need of assistance. Coast Guard Air Facility Newport, Ore., launched an HH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew to assist and a 47-foot motor lifeboat crew from Coast Guard Station Yaquina Bay, Ore., was launched to assist. The crew of the 47-foot motor lifeboat passed a dewatering pump to the Paradise. The Paradise was dewatered and safely towed back to Yaquina Bay. A free Commercial Fishing Vessel Safety Exam can be obtained through any Fishing Vessel Safety Coordinator located throughout Washington and Oregon.
