COAST GUARD ASSISTS VESSEL TAKING ON WATER | |
|
SEATTLE -The Coast Guard assisted the 85-foot pleasure craft, Seawave, that was taking on water near Foulweather Bluff, Wash., at 8:34 a.m. today. Coast Guard Sector Seattle received a mayday call from the master of the Seawave reporting that the vessel was taking on water with four people onboard. A Coast Guard HH-65 helicopter crew from Air Station Port Angeles and a Coast Guard 41-foot utility boat crew from Station Seattle was requested to assist the vessel but stood down after learning that a nearby Good Samaritan removed two of the four people, leaving the remaining two aboard to wait for commercial assistance. The Coast Guard Cutter Swordfish, homeported in Port Angeles, Wash., was in the area and assisted the vessel in getting the flooding under control. Swordfish's personnel also conducted a boarding on the vessel and found leaking fuel, excessive fuel in the bilges, and other unsafe conditions. The vessel's voyage was terminated and the Swordfish escorted the Seawave to its mooring at Salmon Bay in Seattle. Free vessel safety checks are offered through the Coast Guard Auxiliary.
