COAST GUARD AUXILIARY OFFERS 13-LESSON BOATING CLASS
PORTLAND, Ore. -The Coast Guard Auxiliary is offering a 13-lesson comprehensive Boating Skills and Seamanship class beginning September 12 at the Portland Water Pollution Control Lab. The class is designed for those interested in moving beyond the basics covered by the one-day boating safety classes. Flotilla 76 will teach students boating safety skills, equipment requirements, pertinent laws/regulations, and to familiarize boaters with regulatory markers and navigation rules. Additionally, students learn how to prepare for and avoid boating emergencies. The Portland Water Pollution Control Lab is located at 6543 N. Burlington Avenue. The class will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7-9 p.m., and end October 26. Cost for the text books is $40.00 each or $60.00 for a shared text and workbook. These men and women can be found on the nation's waterways, in the air, in classrooms and on the dock, performing Maritime Domain Awareness patrols, safety patrols, vessel safety checks and public education. The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary was founded in 1939 by an Act of Congress as the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve and re-designated as the Auxiliary in 1941. Its 35,000 members donate millions of hours annually in support of Coast Guard missions. | |
