Video Release: Coast Guard conducts medevac at Yaquina Bay, Ore.

SEATTLE - A Coast Guard MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Group Air Station North Bend, Ore., hoisted a 47-year-old-man with chest pains from the fishing vessel Excellence, 40 miles northwest of Yaquina Bay, Ore., Wednesday.

The master of the 367-foot vessel did not consider the man’s condition life threatening, but was not comfortable crossing the Yaquina Bay bar to bring him to a hospital due to 12-foot breaking surf.

Coast Guard Sector Columbia River, Ore., contacted a flight surgeon, who recommended conducting a medevac. The man was hoisted and transferred to local EMS standing by at Coast Guard Air Facility Newport, Ore.

Group Air Station North Bend’s area of responsibility includes 220-miles of shoreline extending from Pacific City, Ore., south to the California border, west to 50-nautical miles offshore and east to I-5. Their missions include maritime search-and-rescue, enforcement of laws and treaties, providing aids to navigation, and marine environmental protection. In addition, the air station frequently assists federal, state and county agencies by responding to calls for assistance with inland searches and medevacs.
