NEWPORT, Ore. - A Coast Guard HH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Air Facility Newport hoists a man from the fishing vessel Caremi near Newport Friday, Sept. 20, 2011. NEWPORT, Ore. — The Coast Guard medevaced a man from a fishing vessel approximately 40 miles northwest of Newport, Ore., Friday.
Group/Air Station North Bend received a call from the 44-foot fishing vessel Caremi at approximately 2:20 a.m., stating a crewmember was experiencing severe pain on his left side and back.
An HH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew was launched from Coast Guard Air Facility Newport and arrived on scene at approximately 4:50 a.m. The helicopter crew lowered a rescue basket to the vessel and hoisted the man to the helicopter. The man was then transported to Air Facility Newport where a waitng ambulance took him to Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital in Newport.
